Back to TopYoung Eagles Program

The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

Since 1992, more than 1.5 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight through the program. Young Eagles have been registered in more than 90 different countries and have been flown by more than 42,000 volunteer pilots.

EAA, the Experimental Aircraft Association, is an international aviation membership association founded in 1953 and headquartered in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EAA sponsors many aviation education programs including the EAA Young Eagles program.

Back to TopComEd Helping Hand Program

In response to unemployment rates of more than 20 percent in parts of the Chicago metropolitan area, ComEd launched its Helping Hand program.  The Helping Hand program is designed to provide immediate relief to residential customers in need facing service suspension. It is open to qualifying ComEd customers who have received a disconnection notice or were recently disconnected.

Customers with a financial, medical, or other hardship issue can pay 50 percent of their outstanding balance and ComEd will credit the remaining 50 percent once the payment has been cleared. The Helping Hand program is only available from March 1 through March 31, 2010.

To sign up, customers must either call 1-888-806-CARE (2273) or attend a ComEd assistance fair (click here for a list of those fairs). Customers who call to sign up by phone need to provide a ComEd account number, a method of payment (check, credit card or debit card) and proof of a financial, medical, or other hardship issue. Customers who sign up at a ComEd assistance fair must provide a disconnection notice, a method of payment and proof of a financial, medical, or other hardship issue; proof of identification for the ComEd customer of record, and a current ComEd bill (within 30 days).

Back to TopStamp Out Hunger Food Drive

On Saturday, May 8, the Campbell Soup Company will team up with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to collect food donations in order to provide assistance to the rapidly increasing number of Americans who are struggling with hunger during the NALC’s annual Stamp Out Hunger! food drive.

The Stamp Out Hunger! drive is a nationwide effort to provide food to local food banks and pantries that would otherwise have depleted stocks during the summer months and are experiencing universal increases in demand for emergency food assistance due to the current recession as well as growing unemployment rates.

Helping Stamp Out Hunger! is as easy as checking your mailbox.  Just leave a bag of non-perishable food where your letter carrier normally delivers your mail on Saturday, May 8.  Your letter carrier will then pick up and deliver the food to a local food bank.  Examples of non-perishable items include:

o   Canned soup
o   Canned meats and fish
o   Canned vegetables, fruits and juices
o   Boxed goods (such as cereal)
o   Pasta and rice

For more information about the annual Stamp Out Hunger! effort in your community, ask your letter carrier, contact your local post office or visit either www.helpstampouthunger.com or www.facebook.com/StampOutHunger, or follow the drive at www.twitter.com/StampOutHunger.

Back to TopIllinois Energy Star Appliance Rebate Program

The State of Illinois is pleased to announce the Illinois ENERGY STAR® Appliance Rebate Program, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

This program provides incentives for Illinois consumers to replace older appliances with specific residential ENERGY STAR qualified appliances, water heaters, and HVAC equipment. The new appliances must be purchased in Illinois through participating retail stores or contractors.

Illinois' program will be rolled out in two phases:

• Starting January 31, 2010, consumers can get point of purchase rebates on qualifying heating and cooling equipment and water heaters as long as funding lasts.
• Point of purchase rebates on ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners will be available for items purchased from April 16 – 25, 2010.

Consumers looking for more information on the Illinois Energy Star Appliance Rebate Program can call 877-782-7005 or click here for additional details.

Back to TopAmerican Cancer Society Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.

The Relay for Life event will take place on June 25-26, 2010 at the Fire Barn in Bartlett.  If you are interested in putting a team together and start fundraising, please go to www.relayforlifebhps.com to sign up.

For further information, please contact Wendy Bednarek at 630-372-4254.
