The department’s Tower Ladder is staffed as a “jump company” with firefighter/paramedics from the Station 15 ambulance. Overall operation of the Fire Department is under the command of the Fire Chief who reports to the Village Manager. The Deputy Chief is second in the chain of command. The Hanover Park Fire Department employs a staff of part time firefighters who are used to fill full time vacancies due to vacation, Kelly Days, sick leave and leave for training. Part time personnel are required to possess certification as a Firefighter II and Emergency Medical Technician – Basic. Many part time personnel are Licensed Paramedics as well as Haz Mat Technicians, Fire Apparatus Engineers, and Technical Rescue Specialists.
Part time firefighters are required to bid two 12 hour shifts per week and are assigned based on departmental needs. Part time shifts run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Shifts can be joined together to allow a part time employee to work a 24 hour shift.
