Hanover Park Police Report Record Low Crime: 2022 Part I Crime Total is Lowest in Village History

The Hanover Park Police Department is proud to report that the 2022 Part I crime recorded total is the lowest in Village history. Part I Crime is the benchmark used by the FBI to determine crime rates in cities and villages.

 Overall, 234 Part I Crimes were recorded in 2022 versus 236 in 2021.  This follows a 22% drop experienced from 2020 to 2021, resulting in the previous all-time low.

 “Combining dedicated, professional personnel with state-of-the-art technology, community policing strategies, and supportive residents and elected officials have brought us to where we are now,” said Police Chief Andrew Johnson.  “I am extremely proud of the members of our police department and excited to report this result to our residents, businesses, and stakeholders.”  Chief Johnson noted that nearly 80% of the Part I crime total consisted of property crimes, many of which could have been preventable.  “The 2022-2024 police department strategic plan includes a goal of targeting incidents of theft throughout the Village, which is the highest category of criminal activity.  I encourage all residents to follow us on social media, attend our meetings and events, and work with us to keep Hanover Park safe.” 

Overall, Part I crime in the Village of Hanover Park has been on a downward trend over the past decade. “This result could not have been possible without the commitment to partnership building and community policing that Hanover Park has made” said Mayor Rodney Craig.  “Our low crime rate is something I take great pride in as we work together to keep Hanover Park a great place to live, work, and do business.”
