Reduce Mosquito Breeding

Reducing places for where stagnant water is present is an effective way to reduce the mosquito population. The DuPage County Health Department recommends to:

  • Discard the following:
    • Bottles
    • Buckets
    • Old tires
    • Tin cans
    • Other water-holding containers
  • Fill-in or drain any low places in the yard, holes in trees and hollow stumps.
  • Keep gutters, drains and ditches clean so that water will drain properly. Repair leaky pipes and faucets.
  • Cover trash containers to keep out rainwater.
  • Empty plastic wading pools at least once a week and store indoors when not in use.
  • Change the water in birdbaths and plant pots at least once a week and stock ornamental ponds with mosquito-eating fish, or use mosquito larva-control products.
  • Keep grass short and shrubbery well trimmed around the house.
  • Report mosquito-breeding sites to your local mosquito control agency.

Click it or Ticket

"Click It or Ticket" Results

The Hanover Park Police Department made 511 traffic stops resulting in 4 impaired driving arrests, and issued 288 citations during the Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” enforcement period including:

  • 9    seat belt tickets
  • 10  child car seat citations
  • 41  no valid/suspended/revoked licenses
  • 15  uninsured motorists
  • 29  speeding citations
  • 4    warrant arrests
  • 9    drug arrests
  • 1     arrest for reckless driving
  • 1     arrest for unlawful use of a weapon
  • 1     arrest for obstructing identification

“Through the Memorial Day enforcement campaign, we helped make Illinois roads safer and spread the word that seat belts and child safety restraints save lives,” said Deputy Chief Victor DiVito.

While Illinois’ 2022 seat belt compliance rate was 93%, unbelted occupants still account for more than half of those killed in traffic crashes. The “Click It or Ticket” campaign aims to change the behavior of the millions of people who don’t buckle up. Thousands of lives could be saved each year if every vehicle occupant was properly restrained when traveling.

The Illinois “Click It or Ticket” campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds.
