Metra alerts riders about major changes ahead, including new fares and closing of ticket windows


What riders need to know:

There is a new fare structure effective Feb. 1 with a variety of new fare prices, products, and rules. Fares under the new structure are set at or below pre-pandemic levels.

Metra is closing its remaining ticket windows at outlying stations on the BNSF Line on Jan. 8 and on all other lines, including at downtown stations, on Feb. 1. Vending machines have been installed at the busiest stations.

February Monthly Passes will not be available for sale until Feb. 1.

The 10-Ride Ticket will no longer be available for purchase after Jan. 31.

The Fair Transit South Cook pilot is ending on the Metra Electric and Rock Island lines on Jan. 31; it is being replaced with a reduced fare program for low-income riders on all lines.

The Regional Connect Pass will be available in the Ventra app only.

Snowbird & Extended Vacation Residents

Snowbird and extended vacation residents who plan to be away from their homes for an extended period should take proactive steps to manage their water utility bills. This is crucial to avoid any unexpected fees or interruptions in service. Before departing, it’s important to contact the Water Billing Department directly at 630-823-5799. Informing them of your absence ensures that your account is properly managed during your time away.

The Water Billing Department offers several convenient options for bill management. One option is to pay your bills in advance for the duration of your absence. Alternatively, you can setup autopay, which will automatically deduct the bill amount from your bank account each month. This is a hassle-free way to ensure that your bills are paid on time, avoiding any late fees or service interruptions.

Additionally, for those who anticipate being away for more than 30 days and no one will occupy the residence during that time, the Water Billing Department offers the option to turn off the water at the b-box. This can help prevent any potential issues such as leaks or water waste while you are away. However, it’s important to note that this requires scheduling an appointment to turn the water back on upon your return.

To facilitate bill management from any location, the Water Billing Department also provides the option to set-up an online utility billing account. This digital account allows residents to access and manage their bills from anywhere in the world, offering convenience and peace of mind.

By taking these steps, residents can ensure that their water utility needs are seamlessly managed during their extended absence, providing one less thing to worry about while enjoying their time away.
