Village of Hanover Park Comprehensive Plan

Upcoming Comprehensive Plan Update

The Village of Hanover Park is excited to announce the kick-off of the planning process to rewrite our comprehensive plan. The Hanover Park Comprehensive Plan will serve as the Village’s official guide for land use and development for the next 20 years. Informed by community consensus, community vision, existing conditions, and future potentials, the Comprehensive Plan will serve as a road map to the future by guiding policy decisions and helping the community achieve its long-term objectives.

The Comprehensive Plan will address several topics, including land use, housing and neighborhoods, economic development, transportation and mobility, community facilities and infrastructure, and parks and open space. When completed, the Hanover Park Comprehensive Plan will be the product of the community, with a vision and recommendations guided by valuable input received from residents, business owners, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

The first community input meeting will be held on February 11th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Residents are invited to come and learn more about the comprehensive plan, as well as how they can get involved with the planning process.

Unable to attend the meeting? Don't worry, you can still get involved by visiting the project website and completing the community questionnaire.

On the project website, you can complete the community questionnaire and provide your feedback about the issues and opportunities facing the Village. There is also an online tool called map.social, where you can make your own map and identify points of interest, public safety concerns, or areas you believe should be redeveloped in the Village.

The Village and project team look forward to working with the community in crafting a plan for Hanover Park!

This week, the proceeds from this year’s Food for Fines campaign were handed off to the Hanover Township Food Pantry. The program ran from December 15 through the 31st. During this time, residents were allowed to void parking citations in exchange for 10 canned food items. A total of 1,128 food items were collected and donated to the Hanover Township Food Pantry. Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s campaign! These donations make a great impact helping to feed those in need!

Mailbox Installation Information

Keep Your Mailbox Safe This Winter!

Winter is here, and sometimes accidents happen while we’re busy clearing the roads for you. If one of our snowplows accidentally bumps into a properly installed mailbox, don’t worry! We will fix it or replace it with a standard metal mailbox on a standard wooden post. Please ensure that your mailbox is installed per the U.S. Postal Service Regulations.

To help keep your mailbox safe, make sure it is the right distance from the road. The U.S. Postal Service has some handy guidelines:

1. Set it back - Place your mailbox 6 to 8 inches back from the curb.

2. Proper height - The bottom of your mailbox should be 41 to 45 inches from the ground.

Want more tips on mailbox placement? Check out the USPS website!

If you think a Village snowplow might have hit your mailbox, give us a call at the Public Works Department at (630) 823-5700. Let us know as soon as you notice the damage. We will set up a temporary mailbox so you can still get your mail, and then we will install a new one when the weather warms up in the spring, if it was hit by a Village plow truck and was properly installed.

Thank You Corporate Partners!
