Drug Take Back Day April 26th

National Drug Take Back Day -

Saturday, April 26th

This Saturday, April 26th, is the DEA's National Drug Take Back Day. Our friends from the Kenneth Young Center will be at the Hanover Park Police Department from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to collect your unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications and to share information about substance use disorder, prevention, and treatment options.

Flushing medicines down the toilet or pouring them down the sink can create the potential for harmful chemicals to end up in our waterways. Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands, which can lead to medication misuse or the beginning of opioid addiction. Opioid overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S.  That's why Drug Take Back Day is a great opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinet and turn in, safely and anonymously, all your expired and unneeded medications.

If you are unable to make it to the Police Department on April 26th, don't worry. A drug take-back box is in the lobby that is available from 8:00am to midnight every day for your convenience.

If you or someone you know needs help, the Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances at 1-833-234-3435 is available 24/7, 365 days a year and is completely free. Anyone can use the Helpline, whether you are struggling with a substance use disorder or care about someone who is. Trained Helpline specialists answer questions, provide support, and connect you to services in Illinois.

Light the Night & Bells Across America

Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters

Once again, the Village of Hanover Park will be participating in activities to remember and honor fallen firefighters from April 27 - May 4. Each year, an average of 80 firefighters make the ultimate sacrifice and lose their life in the line of duty. During this time, we take time to show support and honor those that have perished. We ask all to participate by joining in the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters campaign by lighting your home or business with red light to show support during this upcoming week. Light the Night builds into the weekend of May 3rd and 4th when the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors the Memorial Weekend. This event includes a ceremony and remembrance that is held for all firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year. To recognize and support the Memorial Weekend, the Mayor will be issuing a proclamation to lower the flags to half-staff and invite everyone to ring a bell or pause for a moment of silence any time on May 4th.  For more information on Memorial Weekend or ways to Honor fallen firefighters, visit https://weekend.firehero.org/.

2025 Construction Projects

Construction Updates

Construction season is officially here! Check back here weekly for status updates.

Arlington Drive Bridge Replacement Update:  The installations of the new service lines for the new watermain were installed. Once AT&T relocates their utilities, the bridge demolition will begin. This work is anticipated to begin within the next few weeks.

Schick Road Resurfacing Update: Asphalt removal will begin on Monday, April 28th. Later that week, the crews will begin placing the new asphalt.

2025 Resurfacing Project Update: Sidewalk, curb, and gutter replacement is underway. This work will continue into next week.

2025 Pavement Preventative Maintenance Update: Next week, crews will be working throughout the Village to complete our annual pavement preventative maintenance work. This work includes applying a rejuvenating agent and sand on the streets. Please exercise caution while driving in these areas. If this material gets on your vehicle, it should not cause damage. Any bug and tar remover product should clean it off. The material will naturally fade in a few weeks if it gets on any pavement.

If you have any project questions, contact Engineering at 630-823-5700 or visit www.hpil.org/1234/current-projects.
