Hanover Park To Restrict Public Access to Facilities

The health and safety of the community and our employees is the top priority of the Village of Hanover Park. Based on the recent information provided by the Governor’s Office, the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, and out of an abundance of caution, the Village of Hanover Park will be restricting access to Village facilities. Effective immediately, all Fire Department and Public Works Department facilities will be closed to public access until May 1st, 2020. As a polling location, beginning Tuesday, March 17th, the Hanover Park Village Hall public access will be restricted only to individuals utilizing the polling place. All other access to village personnel and services will be closed to the public. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, Village Hall will be closed for public access until May 1st, 2020. Village staff will continue to work on-site and maintain all essential operations.

The following is in effect until May 1st, 2020:

  1. Village Board meetings will be held at the Hanover Park Police Department Community Room located at 2011 Lake Street, Hanover Park.
  2. The Finance Department will provide limited public access services available in the lobby of the Hanover Park Police Department at the Code Enforcement service window. Residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to utilize online bill payment options.
  3. All committee and commission meetings are hereby cancelled.
  4. The Hanover Park Arbor Day Celebration event scheduled for Friday, April 24th and the Kids at Hope Community Health & Resource Fair scheduled for Saturday, April 25 are cancelled and will rescheduled. Dates to be announced.
  5. Village Adjudication Hearings will be held at the Hanover Park Police Department Community Room located at 2011 Lake Street, Hanover Park.
  6. Our first responders will be taking additional safety precautions in the field.
  7. Enhanced cleaning efforts to disinfect public and high-use areas.

We remind all residents to continue to practice proactive preventative measures:

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  3. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing
  4. Wash your hands

If you or a household member have reason to think you may have been exposed to the virus, you should follow these steps:

  1. Isolate yourself immediately; stay at home. People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to isolate at home during their illness. You should restrict activities outside your home, except for getting medical care.
  2. Call your doctor immediately and follow your doctor’s direction.
  3. If you have a medical appointment, call the healthcare provider ahead of time and tell them that you have or may have COVID-19. This will help the healthcare provider’s office take steps to keep other people from getting infected or exposed.
  4. f you are sick, wear a face mask when you are around other people. Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces you touch.

Hanover Park Mayor Rodney S. Craig reminds residents and visitors that the COVID-19 outbreak is an evolving situation with new information becoming available every day. Village Staff will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions as information becomes available.

Hanover Park is Dedicated to a Complete Count for the 2020 Census!

2020 Census Invitations Arriving March 12-20

Ninety-five percent or about 143 million households in the country will receive an initial invitation to respond to the 2020 Census in their mailboxes between March 12 and 20. The U.S. Census Bureau released informational copies of the invitations, the enclosed materials, and the subsequent reminders households will receive. These materials can help the public know what to expect and avoid potential scams.

Households are encouraged to respond when they receive their invitation. Depending on how likely the area is to respond online, households will receive either an invitation encouraging them to respond online or by phone (about 112 million households), or an invitation along with a paper questionnaire (about 31 million households).

All invitations will include a short phrase in English and 12 additional languages inviting people to respond online or by phone in their language. In areas where 20 percent or more of the households need Spanish assistance, the invitations will be in both English and Spanish.

All households receiving an invitation in the mail will receive a second letter in the mail shortly after reminding them to respond. Then, households that still haven’t responded will receive a series of additional reminders, including a paper questionnaire in mid-April. Census takers will follow up with households that don’t respond to collect responses in person.

See the press kit for copies of the materials arriving by mail and the 2020 Census Mail Contact Strategies map viewer for the type of invitation each household will receive.

Visit BECOUNTEDHanoverPark for more information on the 2020 Census and Hanover Park's commitment to a complete count.

Celebrate Responsibly on St. Patrick's Day

Before the green beer starts flowing, remember to designate a sober driver. If you don’t have a designated driver, call a cab, use a ride-sharing service, have a sober friend or family member pick you up, or stay where you are and sleep it off. Never let a friend leave your sight if you think they’re about to drive impaired and always buckle up – it’s your best defense in a crash.

The Hanover Park Police Department today announced it will conduct special patrols this St. Patrick’s Day to crack down on impaired drivers and encourage people to wear their seat belts. Celebrated throughout the country, St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest holidays of the year due to the number of drunk drivers on the road. If you’ll be drinking or using another impairing substance, plan ahead for a sober ride home. Pedestrians are at risk, too. If you are walking, keep an eye out for cars. If you’re a designated driver, be alert for impaired walkers who may not obey street signs and pedestrian signals.

“We urge our community residents and visitors to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day responsibly,” said Deputy Chief Terrence Sherrill. “We’ll be out in force to keep impaired drivers off the roads and help ensure that everyone makes it home safely.”

The St. Patrick’s Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign runs from March 12-18. The Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
