The traditional “Flip of the Switch” tree lighting ceremony will take place on December 4, 2020 at 7pm virtually via the Hanover Park Facebook page. All the lights at Village Hall, the pine trees decorated by community organizations and the snowflake lights along Lake St. & Barrington Rd. will be light up at once to be enjoyed throughout the season.

Shop Small SaturdayThe “Shop Local - Shop Small” movement was created to shine a spotlight on our locally owned businesses. This year, Shop Small Saturday is November 28, 2020. When you begin your holiday shopping this year, consider buying products and gift certificates from local retailers in Hanover Park along with buying from national retailers.
When you support your favorite local shops, look for news ones too…you will be helping to build a stronger Hanover Park because your money stays local and supports local jobs as well as your neighbors.
Last year, in 2019, U.S. shoppers came together to support their local communities more than ever. The 10th Annual Small Business Saturday reported a record high with an estimated $19.6 billion in reported spending.

Michael H. Coleman Youth of the Year Award: Deadline December 4, 2020Program OverviewNamed after Michael H. Coleman, a young Hanover Park resident who passed away in 2011, this scholarship program is designed to recognize and encourage excellence in the young people of Hanover Park. Students are judged on academic initiative, career initiative, leadership initiative and community initiative. Each year, a high school senior is selected as the Hanover Park "Youth of the Year." Download the brochure (PDF) and application (PDF) for the 2020-2021 Michael H. Coleman Youth of the Year Scholarship.
The Youth of the Year Scholarship was established by the Village of Hanover Park to honor and recognize the contributions of graduating high school students who reside in Hanover Park. Each year, Hanover Park high school seniors are invited to participate in this program. Although considered, academics are secondary to the student’s involvement in serving the Hanover Park community. The Village knows there are several ways in which youth are involved in improving both themselves and the Village of Hanover Park and acknowledge those achievements by awarding a $1,000 Scholarship and four $500 runner up scholarships.
