Opposition to Proposed Railroad Merger Continues

Hanover Park Mayor Rod Craig and communities that are members of the Coalition to Stop CPKC joined other elected officials and held a press conference this week to continue to voice opposition to the proposed merger of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City railroad.

The coalition continued to spotlight the negative impact that communities will face as a result of the merger such as emergency response times, quality of life, traffic congestion and other safety considerations . This is further highlighted by the recent train derailment in Ohio that resulted in toxic chemicals being released into the community and environment. The coalition has filed their concerns with the Surface Transportation Board who is reviewing the merger.

If you would like more information, please visit the Coalition to Stop CPCK website.

Tornados in February?

If you heard the Severe Weather Sirens this week, here are a few things to remember:

  • Sirens are for outdoor warning purposes and not meant to be heard indoors.
  • Hearing a siren means to move indoors quickly and seek additional information.
  • Sirens are activated by Village and County officials and not the National Weather Service.
  • It does NOT mean the threat has ended when the sirens stop sounding.
  • Have multiple ways to get warnings and more information.
  • For more information, visit the Village's Emergency Management website.
