Curb Appeal Reminders

Code Enforcement Officers will soon be in your neighborhood identifying issues that you may be planning to address. As part of the Curb Appeal Program, when officers observe a violation, they will typically notify the resident with a door hanger. Officers will also follow-up with a written notice of the violation to homeowners. Notices are not tickets, they are designed to identify what needs to be addressed within a specific time frame. If a homeowner needs more time to address an issue, they can contact the Code Enforcement Unit and speak with the case officer. The objective of the Curb Appeal Program is to work with residents to achieve compliance.

The following are some common items requiring correction:

  • Tall grass and weeds over eight inches in height.
  • Garbage and recycling containers improperly stored Infront of the home.
  • Driveways in serious disrepair.
  • Missing or torn window screens.
  • Rotted wood or peeling paint on the exterior.
  • Fences that are in disrepair.
  • Gutters and downspouts in disrepair.
  • Sump pumps that discharge too close to property lines or onto public sidewalks.
  • Inoperable vehicles stored in driveways.
  • Bare grass and ruts in lawns.
  • Dead or dangerous trees on the property.

Any questions about property maintenance issues or the Curb Appeal Program should be directed to the Code Enforcement Unit at (630) 823-5570. Thank you for efforts in making Hanover Park better place to live.
