Do you know what information you should have before you sign a lease for your business? What type of signs you can have when you open your business? Where can you go for financing? The Village has put together a comprehensive guide to provide you with an outline of the steps you should take to successfully open and grow your business. The online guide has links to helpful resources for assistance including the Small Business Administration, Chambers of Commerce, WBDC, and various local, state and federal agencies that provide free assistance. You can also download a .pdf of this guide.
Here are some steps to start and/or grow a business, and the document has detailed guidance for each step:
- CONCEPT Phase
- Fill out a business model outline
- Write a business plan
- Find a location
- Open a business bank account
2. BEFORE You Open
- Choose a name for your business
- Obtain your FEIN and state sales tax number
- Obtain your Village business license
- Join local business development organizations
3. OPEN Your Business
- Apply for a Grand Opening sign permit
- Look for resources on the Village website
- Join a Chamber of Commerce to organize a ribbon cutting
4. GROW Your Business
- Attend seminars and webinars to learn and stay informed
- Get involve with professional organizations such a Chamber, the WBDC or the Education & Work Center in Hanover Park
