Groot Yard Waste Pick-Up Program

Groot Industries provides a yard waste pick-up program April 3rd through November 28th. Groot will pick up the following brush waste items:

• Unlimited Kraft paper yard bags or personal 35-gallon containers (under 50 pounds) will be collected curbside—stickers are required for each container.
• Bundles up to 48 inches long and up to 18 inches in diameter
• Individual branches that do not exceed 3 1/2 inches in diameter
• Brush that is tied with natural fiber twine
• Bundles with a yard waste sticker attached

Spring Brush Pick-up Continues

The Village’s brush pickup program provides FREE curbside residential brush pick up and will take place in the spring and fall. Area 3 & 4 will be picked up beginning on April 20th. 

SPRING COLLECTION

• Area 3 (South of Lake St & north of Lawrence Ave): Collection begins the week of April 20. Please have all materials at the curb by 7:00 AM on Monday.
• Area 4 (South of Lawrence Ave): Collection begins the week of April 20. Please have all materials at the curb by 7:00 AM on Monday.

GUIDELINES:
The Village will collect branches that are between two (2) and ten (10) feet in length. The branches must be less than eight (8) inches in diameter. 

What will not be picked up: 

• Small hedge or pine clippings
• Yard waste or brush in containers
• Brush or branches with thorns
• Stumps or tree roots
• Unorganized or tangled brush piles 

How to stack brush:

• Do not bundle!
• Neatly stack the brush in one direction with the butt/cut end toward the street. 
• Do not block access to the brush pile with your vehicle.
• No lumber, wire, rope, construction material, or other material can be included with the brush
• Do not block the sidewalk

Lake Street Multi-Use Path Construction Begins in Upcoming Weeks

Construction is anticipated to begin in the upcoming weeks. Once it begins, we will provide temporary road closure updates on our website & Facebook page. 

Project Overview

• Project Location: Lake Street from the Metra Station to Gary Avenue
• Project Description: Install a new multi-use path between existing bicycle paths to provide a continuous path to the Metra Station.
• Primary Goal: To provide continuous non-vehicular access to the Metra and Pace and improve safety by eliminating gaps in the multi-use path network.
• Impact: Temporary lane closures will likely occur during construction operations. 
• Anticipated Start Date: Spring 2026
• The Village received a $1.37 million federal Surface Transportation Program grant for this project!

Community Blood Drive Next Wednesday, April 15th 

On Wednesday April 15th, Vitalant staff will be present in the Village Hall parking lot with the Bloodmobile, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Walk-ins are welcome, appointments preferred. All donors will receive a Culver's "Pint for a Pint" voucher and will be entered for a chance to win one of two $10,000 egift cards!

DuPage River Sweep - April 18th

Join the Environmental Committee in keeping our rivers clean! Help remove debris from the riverbank between Arlington Drive and Lake Street. Wear waterproof boots, gloves, and work clothes.

Be Prepared for an Emergency: Learn CPR.  Save a Life.  

In a cardiac emergency, every minute counts. CPR can double or even triple the chance of survival. Protecting your family, your friends, and your community starts with being prepared. The Hanover Park Fire Department offers CPR training, which includes learning child and adult CPR, how to help a choking victim, and how to operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The next class for the general public is on Saturday, April 18th.

Take & Make Craft @ Main Branch - April 1 - April 30: Visit the library to make your own crepe paper flower. Make a flower that needs no watering. While supplies last. Pick this Take & Make up from Studio1405 in the lower level of the library.

Hope the Comfort Dog @ Main Branch - April 13 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM: Did you know that petting dogs can reduce stress and improve well-being? Kids and their grown-ups are invited to come by, relax, and give Hope a few friendly pats! Cookies and juice will be served. Please register children only, not adults. For ages 2-6. Week of the Young Child Resource Library @ Main Branch - April 15 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Local preschools, daycares, and community agencies will be on hand to discuss their services and answer your questions. No registration needed.
