U.S. Small Business Disaster Loans Now Available

The Village is pleased to announce that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved a disaster declaration for the severe storms and flooding that impacted six counties in northeastern Illinois, from July 2-4, 2026. The declaration covers the Illinois counties of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and McHenry. This declaration makes available low interest federal disaster loans for Illinois small businesses, private non-profits, and residents to help cover damage and losses not covered by insurance.

If you wish to apply for this loan online, visit sba.gov/disaster. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. For people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunication relay services.

If you prefer to speak to someone in person, SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers have also opened in a number of locations. SBA customer service representatives will be available at each center to answer questions, explain the application process and help applicants complete their applications. Walk-Ins are welcome. Eligible residents and business owners may visit any Disaster Loan Outreach Center, regardless of where they live.

The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is October 5, 2026. The deadline to return economic injury applications is May 5, 2027.

Projects in Progress

2026 Hydrant Painting Update: The Village’s contractor began sandblasting, priming, and painting the fire hydrants in the neighborhoods along Lake Street. This project is anticipated to be completed early next week.

2026 Pavement Patching Update: This week, the Village’s internal crew started asphalt pavement patching throughout the Village. This work is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.

Lake Street Multi-Use Path Update: The contractor finished pouring the concrete sections of the path. They also began landscaping restoration. Weather permitting, all concrete and asphalt work will be completed at the end of August. This project will include daily lane closures along Lake Street from Church Street/Metra Station to Turnberry Drive.

Ontarioville Phase II Improvements: The Village’s contractor has continued preliminary construction activities (brush clearing, placing silt fence, etc.) in preparation for full construction activities to start on the new gathering space across from the existing Ontarioville plaza. This new gathering area will include interactive features such as a fire place, a light-up swing and musical instruments.

The Village has rescheduled our showing of The Bad Guys 2 for August 28th! Join us for a Summer Sendoff with a movie in the park at Community Park! Refreshments will be available for sale with the movie beginning at dusk! We hope to see you there!

Free Job Search Help from the American Job Center - August 24 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM: Stop by the Hanover Park Branch for free employment and career services with a Resource Specialist from the American Job Center in Wheeling. Staff will be on site offering free job search assistance, resume reviews, interview preparation, and access to employment and training resources. Open to all job seekers, and NO appointment is necessary.

Drop In Family Services - August 27 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Stop by to connect one-on-one with a staff member from The Bridge Youth and Family Services. The Bridge is a nonprofit organization that supports children, teens, and families through counseling, crisis support, mentoring, and family services.

These free, confidential sessions are a chance to ask questions, get guidance, and explore next steps for challenges like stress, anxiety, family conflict, or other concerns. Staff can help you better understand your options and connect you with helpful resources or services.

Free Wellness Screenings @ Main Branch - August 27 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: A registered nurse from Hanover Township will be at the library offering blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, diabetes, and anemia screenings. No registration is necessary—just drop in!
