QuickBooks 101: Set Up & Start Tracking Your Business Finances

QuickBooks can make running your business easier—once you know how to use it.

In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to get started in QuickBooks and set up your system to track your income, expenses, and invoices the right way from the beginning.

You’ll learn:

• How to navigate QuickBooks and choose the right version
• How to connect your bank account and categorize transactions
• How to create a chart of accounts tailored to your business
• How to record expenses, send invoices, and run basic reports
• What to do each week/month to stay on track

This session is best for small business owners who are new to QuickBooks or want a reset on how it’s set up.

This event is part of Capital Pathways, a no-cost program from the Virginia SBDC that helps small businesses get the funding they need to grow. The program is designed for very small (fewer than 10 employees), emerging, and growth-ready businesses that face challenges accessing traditional financing. It offers hands-on group learning, guided implementation, and extended one-on-one support focused on strengthening your finances, loan applications, and legal setup.

"Sudden cardiac arrest occurs without warning or within minutes after symptoms appear. More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year. The location of the out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) most often occurs in homes/residences (73.4%) followed by public settings (16.3%), and nursing homes (10.3%). If performed immediately, CPR can double or triple the chance of survival from an out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The 2023 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics state that among the over 356,000 OHCA that occurred, 40.2% receive bystander CPR." (American Heart Association).

 The Hanover Park Fire Department, in association with the American Heart Association, is dedicated to teaching you the lifesaving skills you will need when witnessing a cardiac arrest. 

Please note:  All 2026 Scheduled classes will be Healthcare Provider (BLS).  Heartsaver AED, Stop the Bleed, and First Aid classes are offered as group classes by request.  Please contact the Hanover Park Fire Department to schedule these classes for your group or organization. (630) 823-5800.

With the darkest days of winter in our rearview mirror, let's look at what's in store for us this February. This map shows how many minutes of daylight will be added this month! We can expect an increase of 70 minutes in Hanover Park during the month of February!

The Village is aware of recent immigration enforcement activity conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal law enforcement agencies in our community and surrounding area and how this has created anxiety and fear for many residents. The Village of Hanover Park strives to make our Village a Welcoming Community and is committed to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of those living in our community. We are proud to be known as America’s Global Village.

 We want to ensure our community that the Police Department fully supports and complies with the Illinois Trust Act which prohibits our  Police Department from participating in or assisting with federal immigration enforcement. Per the Trust Act, local law enforcement must enforce state laws and local ordinances, they are not to engage in immigration enforcement. Our officers are here to protect and serve the community, not to enforce federal immigration laws. The Village’s response to calls involving immigration operations is limited to safety and observation of the scene.

 If you call 911, Hanover Park police officers respond, ICE does not come along with them, and officers do not inquire about the immigration status of individuals. Our police officers do not detain anyone based solely on their immigration status or provide any other assistance to immigration agents related to immigration investigations. While the Village will not and cannot assist ICE agents in their operations, we cannot lawfully obstruct them either.

 Earlier this year, the Village held a webinar about the Illinois Trust Act and Know Your Rights. The Police Chief and the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic presented on these topics. This webinar is available for residents to view on the Village’s YouTube page at www.youtube.com/@VillageofHanoverPark. There are also Know Your Rights resources available through the Illinois Attorney General’s Office or residents can contact the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic with questions. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) also offers a hotline (855-435-7693) that can connect individuals with an immigration attorney to understand their rights.
