Although most land in DuPage County lies within municipal boundaries, a significant portion remains unincorporated. This project focused on preparing an Unincorporated Land Use Plan for areas along Roosevelt Road (from I-355 east to the County line) and Lake Street (from I-355 west to the County line). To reinvigorate its planning efforts, DuPage County prioritized these unincorporated areas due to their direct impact on service provision and the County’s responsibility for zoning and development oversight.
Purpose of the Study
The corridor study was intended to create a set of land use, development, and policy guidelines to promote and influence development along the Lake Street Corridor. This study also strove to advance the following four core tenets of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning's (CMAP) On-to-2040 Plan:
- Efficient Governance
- Human Capital
- Livable Communities
- Regional Mobility
This corridor was broken down into seven sub-categories extending from the I-355/I-290 Interchange to the County Farm Road/Lake Street intersection. Each sub-planning area represents a cluster of unincorporated areas along the corridor and embodies the distinct characteristics that emphasize the diverse conditions, issues, and opportunities throughout the Study Area.
